TUI Cruise Liner Tests Crew with MEDsan’s 10 minute Antigen Tests

Crew from the dream cruise liner “Mein Schiff 2” from Tui Cruises have been tested for coronavirus in an open-air laboratory from MEDsan.

A “Corona-Mobil” Mercedes-Benz bus has been installed at the Steinwerder Cruise Terminal. From here, MEDsan are able to test crew members with their rapid antigen test, that generates results within 15 to 20 minutes, often in just 8 minutes.

MEDsan’s rapid antigen tests have an accuracy of 92.5% and have already been successfully tested extensively in clinics and hospitals.

The samples taken from MEDsan’s tests can be tested directly on site, meaning no waiting for results and no laboratory visits. This is in stark contrast to many comparable testing methods that require 6 to 48 hours to produce results. This testing method could soon be used at cruise terminals, trade fairs, concerts and all manner of events.

Paul Hillman, CEO of MEDsan UK said “The situation for the travel and events industries is devastating. With a vaccine not yet on the horizon, rapid testing is a reliable and practical method to identify infected staff and guests before they board a ship or enter an event, stemming any further spread of infection.”

Dr. Dirk Heinrich, chairman of the representative assembly of the Hamburg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, is also convinced: “These rapid tests are the future”, he said.
